Woodburn Homestead is a stunning Fleurieu Peninsula wedding venue set on 42 beautiful acres and is a quintessential Australian property that inspires so many creative options. The long gum-lined driveway reveals the historic sandstone homestead, built in 1864 by Matthew Rankine (whose father, William Rankine, settled Strathalbyn). The Westphalen family recently renovated the entire property since their purchase in 2016. Now, Woodburn Homestead is a favourite all-inclusive destination wedding venue for its ability to provide both ceremony and reception locations, as well as premium accommodation.

Weddings at Woodburn

There are so many beautiful ceremony locations for you to select from at Woodburn Homestead, a premium Fleurieu Peninsula wedding venue. By far, our most popular choice is the open-air chapel, with authentically restored stonework and limestone crush floor. Alternatively, you could also choose to wed in the Melrose Garden beside the 160-year-old Morton Bay Fig, in ‘The Stables’ or against the backdrop of the gums and the banks of the majestic Angas River.

The reception venues are endless at Woodburn Homestead, depending on the size of your event and the overall vibe that you would like to achieve on your special day. First, ‘The Stables’ is an enclosed building with a restored concrete floor, which is suitable for seated or cocktail-style events. The lawns outside The Stables is also a dreamy setting, where you can celebrate under festoon lights and a blanket of stars. Other popular options include a marquee on the Angas Lawns with the backdrop of the Angas River, which is suitable for seated or cocktail style events.

You are welcome to enquire about the possibility of a pre-wedding event in addition to your special day (usually midweek availability). Some options include a garden party on the lawns in front of ‘The Stables’, including festoon lights and vintage lounges, or a Secret Cellar Dinner, in which you would utilise our beautifully restored cellar for an intimate rehearsal dinner or hen’s/buck’s dinner. Cindy Westphalen has operated Cindy’s Classic Gourmet since 1987. In that time, she has catered to the Lord Mayor’s Department, Prime Minister John Howard and Premier John Olsen. Cindy has always had a strong connection with community events, catering the official opening of the Airport Runway Extension, the welcome home parade for the Commonwealth Games Athletes and five years for the SA Great Campaign.

As a caterer and planner, Cindy has worked with thousands of couples around Australia to plan and execute their celebrations. As such, Cindy’s Classic Gourmet has received the bride-and-groom-voted award from the Australian Bridal Industry Academy in South Australia since 2001, and the National Designer of Dreams Award for Australia’s Number 1 Caterer in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Since purchasing the beautifully historic Woodburn Homestead in 2016, Cindy Westphalen has dedicated herself to the community of Langhorne Creek — attracting new wedding business as well as accommodating guests and events. Now, Woodburn Homestead is a premium Fleurieu Peninsula wedding venue not to be missed!

In October 2017, Woodburn Homestead hosted an event to raise funds for the Milang Butter Factory. Woodburn has hosted events to showcase local artists, inviting locals, buyers and tourists to the area to discover new talents, artisan pieces and be inspired by the beauty of the region. The Goolwa Tidy Towns Luncheon was also hosted by Woodburn.

In May 2019, Cindy launched the Langhorne Creek Wedding Trail to showcase the region’s wedding businesses to qualified customers in a progressive one-day self-guided tour. When businesses and the local community join to showcase their offerings, the benefits radiate through the region, as each couple’s wedding investment brings return visits, wine tours, weekend getaways and long lunches. Cindy’s efforts successfully showcased what this stunning area has to offer.

The Homestead

Built in 1864 by Matthew Rankine, whose father William Rankine settled Strathalbyn, Woodburn Homestead has been sympathetically restored from the Belvidere attic to the stone cellar since its purchase by the Westphalen family in 2016. Now the exclusive home of award-winning wedding caterer Cindy’s Classic Gourmet, Woodburn Homestead is an award-winning Fleurieu Peninsula wedding venue that serves as one of SA’s best destination venues! The nationally recognised wedding planner Cindy Westphalen manages each wedding along with her experienced team.

The stone barn has been saved from crumbling with structural repairs and authentic restorations to transform it into the icon of the property, an open-air chapel. Bricks matching in age, colour and manufacture were used to restore the steps of the cellar, to be used as an intimate function dining room. South Australian slate was sourced to match that used in the construction of the Homestead, to pave an enclosed outdoor area adjoining the Angus River and frame the natural arbour of Australian gum trees for a wedding ceremony backdrop. ‘The Stables’ and adjoining lawns were thoughtfully established by the Westphalen family to link the homestead, open-air chapel and Angas Lawns.

Woodburn Homestead has three bathrooms and four bedrooms each with a private entrance, providing comfortable, luxury Australian accommodation as a base to explore the food, wine, produce and history that the Langhorne Creek region offers.
