Cindy Westphalen has operated Cindy’s Classic Gourmet since 1987, in that time catering to the Lord Mayor’s Department, Prime Minister John Howard and Premier John Olsen. Cindy has always had a strong connection with community events, catering the official opening of the Airport Runway Extension, the welcome home parade for the Commonwealth Games Athletes and five years for the SA Great Campaign.

As a caterer and planner Cindy has worked with hundreds of couples around Australia to plan and execute their celebrations. As such Cindy’s Classic Gourmet has received the bride-and-groom-voted award from the Australian Bridal Industry Academy in South Australia since 2001, and the National Designer of Dreams Award for Australia’s Number 1 Caterer in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Since purchasing Woodburn Homestead in 2016, Cindy Westphalen has dedicated herself to the community of Langhorne Creek, attracting new wedding business, accommodation guests and events.

In October 2017 Woodburn Homestead hosted an event to raise funds for the Milang Butter Factory. Woodburn has hosted events to showcase local artists, inviting locals, buyers and tourists to the area to discover new talents, artisan pieces and be inspired by the beauty of the region. The Goolwa Tidy Towns Luncheon was also hosted by Woodburn.

In May 2019 Cindy is launching the Langhorne Creek Wedding Trail to showcase the region’s wedding businesses to qualified customers in a progressive one-day self-guided tour. When businesses and the local community join to showcase their offerings, the benefits radiate through the region, as each couple’s wedding investment brings return visits, wine tours, weekend getaways and long lunches, and Cindy hopes to secure this stunning area’s bright future.

The Homestead

Built in 1864 by Matthew Rankine, whose father William Rankine settled Strathalbyn, Woodburn Homestead has been sympathetically restored from the Belvidere attic to the stone cellar, since its purchase by the Westphalen family in 2016. Now the home of Cindy’s Classic Gourmet, Woodburn is an all-inclusive destination for weddings, accommodation, birthdays, community events and corporate retreats, with event management by the multi-award winning nationally recognised caterer and planner Cindy Westphalen.

The stone barn has been saved from crumbling with structural repairs and authentic restorations to transform it into the icon of the property, an Open-Air Chapel. Bricks matching in age, colour and manufacture were used to restore the steps of the cellar, to be used as an intimate function dining room. South Australian slate was sourced to match that used in the construction of the Homestead, to pave an enclosed outdoor area adjoining the Angus River and frame the natural arbour of Australian gum trees for a wedding ceremony backdrop.

Woodburn Homestead has three bathrooms and four bedrooms each with a private entrance, providing comfortable, luxury Australian accommodation as a base for exploring the food, wine, produce, history and country hospitality of Langhorne Creek in an accessible way.

Woodburn Weddings

Melrose Garden beside the 160-year-old Morton Bay Fig. The Barn, an Open-Air Chapel with authentically restored stone work and limestone crush floor.
The Angas River Natural Arbour, against the backdrop of the gums and the banks of the majestic river.

The Stables, enclosed and restored with concrete floor, suitable for seated or cocktail style events. The Stables’ Lawns, celebrate under festoon lights and a blanket of stars. Marquee on the lawns between The Stables and the Angas River, suitable for seated or cocktail style events.

Garden Party on the lawns of The Stables, including festoon lights and vintage lounges. Cellar Dinner, intimate dining room for a rehearsal dinner or hen’s/buck’s dinner. All Woodburn Weddings include four pre-event appointments:

• Meeting with Woodburn Wedding Planner
• Meeting with your photographer and/or videographer
• Rehearsal

Langhorne Creek Wedding Trail

Sunday May 19 – midday to 8.00pm
Validate your complimentary ticket at the 5 venues on the Langhorne Creek Wedding Trail, each showcasing a unique function style, from an industrial winery, tactile barrel shed and tropical oasis, to historic buildings, manicured native gardens and stone cottages. From 12 noon you’re invited into immersive experiences with local suppliers and regional producers at each venue to provide inspiring wedding solutions with tastings, demonstrations, interactive displays and live entertainment.

From 4pm the Afterparty kicks off at Venue 5: Woodburn Homestead with a spectacular helicopter arrival by indie musician, winner of the Most Popular Blues & Roots Award at the 2018 SA Music Awards and 2018 Triple J Unearthed Featured Artist Ollie English. Party tunes continue into the evening with DJ Sofie Bozzetti, plus food vans, beer and wine.

Guests who validate their tickets at all five venues: Belvidere Winery, Belvidere Memorial Hall, Oasis Gardens, The Winehouse and Woodburn Homestead, are then eligible for the prize draw, announced by Ollie English at 5pm. Prizes include the chance to have your wedding featured in Fleurieu Living Magazine, a subscription to Fleurieu Living Magazine, two Langhorne Creek weekend getaways including accommodation, wine, regional produce and dining, plus generous prizes from a number of wedding suppliers.
